Hardwired EV chargers are strongly recommended and offer the most reliable charging experience. These chargers do not require an outlet because they are connected directly to your home’s electrical circuit.  Be sure to use a licensed electrician.

Plug-in EV chargers offer the flexibility to move the charger to another residence in the future if needed. These chargers require a licensed electrician to install a commercial-grade NEMA 14-50 outlet.

Note: These chargers are not recommended due to the potential for nuisance breaker tripping and the receptacles can become loose or wear out causing safety issues.

Portable EV chargers offer convenience and flexibility when you travel. These chargers only have a maximum charging capacity of 32 Amps which limits their charging speed.

Note: These chargers require a professionally installed, commercial-grade NEMA 14-50 outlet at your home or your travel destination.

Adjustable EV chargers are the preferred and most flexible type of charger. These chargers can be adjusted to give you the fastest charging speed available depending on your EV and home’s (current or future) available electrical capacity.

Note: Consult a licensed electrician if you wish to upgrade your home’s electrical infrastructure should you desire to charge your EV faster.

Fixed EV chargers have a pre-set amperage so they cannot be adjusted to charge your EV faster in the future.

EV Chargers mainly come in 16, 32, 40, and 48 Amps. Chargers with higher amperage (Amps) generally means faster charging time, as long as your EV can accept the higher charging load (Amps).
